PENANG: A combined group of 15 members from IC SuperSeniorZ and BEC zone 10 had an outreach to a Home in Tanjong Tokong on Sept 10. There are forty residents, men and women, of whom are several Catholics. The visitors garlanded the old folks with garlands of fresh flowers which they had made. They also brought lunch for all. Several residents were fed by the visitors. Only after all the residents had eaten or been fed did the visitors help themselves.

The more ambulant members of the Home responded happily to the lunch and the singalong that followed. Old favourites included You are my Sunshine, Clementine and a Chinese number, Mei Li Hwa Everyone was delighted when an old nonya sang the pantun (quatrain) of Rasa Sayang. They then danced the hula-hula to the tune of To You Sweetheart, Aloha.

The mood was festive. For two hours all pain and loneliness were forgotten. It was gratifying to see the faces light up with joie de vivre. The fulfillment of joy that afternoon was so overwhelming that the organizers plan to revisit the Home, to make similar visits to other Homes and to encourage other groups to do the same. — By Marie Lim
