Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our Catechetical Sunday this year will be celebrated on September 22, 2013. The theme for the event challenges us all — catechists, catechumens and the entire Christian Community.
To be a disciple of Christ, it is not enough just to enroll as a catechumen and later be baptized. To have faith in Christ is an on-going process of building a close relationship and living in communion with the person of Christ (Jn. 15:4-5). Thus, Christian Catechesis is to be centered on the person of Christ in knowing, loving and following Him.
Indeed it is a challenging task for catechists to be more creative and innovative in their catechesis so as to produce a people of God who are strong in faith and have truly centred their lives in the person of Christ. There are many resources that can help the catechists in deepening their own knowledge; for example, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Documents of the Vatican Council 11.
In order that we can always live in communion with and bear witness to Christ, let us constantly invoke the power of the Holy Spirit to equip us with power, love and self-control (2 Tim 1 :6-7). At the same time, let us always be aware of and remain faithful to the words of Mother Mary, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn. 2:6), so we can always bear witness to Christ.
Thank you to all Catechists for their patience and endurance in their ministries all this while. In fact we are really in need of more catechists. In conjunction with Catechetical Sunday, I would like to take this opportunity to invite those of you who feel being called to freely render your service to God and His Church in the Catechetical Ministry.
We thank Fr Mark Michael from Penang Diocese for helping us in preparing the Catechetical Sunday Reflection this year. May this reflection and the suggestions prepared be fully utilized by us all.
Happy Catechetical Sunday.
