BANTING (Herald Malaysia): After more than 12 years of anticipation, the parishioners of Gereja Katolik Fatima (GKF) witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony for the new church building on November 25 in conjunction with the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King.
The ceremony took place after the morning Mass in front of Tadika Maria which will soon be demolished to make way for the new church building. This historical event was also witnessed by Dato’ Lim Boh Ang, Datuk Hew, Ir Leon Pradeep, contractors Mr Wong and son.
Parish Administrator, Fr Lawrence Andrew SJ began the ceremony with an opening prayer followed by prayers led by parishioners Egbert Adolf and Manikam Sinnapan. The parishioners prayed the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary and concluded with a hymn to Our Lady of Fatima.
As the song was sung, Fr Lawrence went up the backhoe assisted by Anthony Das, the Building Fundraising Committee Chairperson and initiated the digging of the ground. This joyous ceremony marks the start of the construction of our new church building. It was the constant prayer of our parishioners and the determination of our Parish Administrator and dedicated people that have brought us to this stage. Despite Fr Lawrence’s heavy work load, he agreed to be our Parish Administrator in July 2011.
Since then, he has brought tremendous growth and changes both spiritually and physically for the parish. By God’s Grace and through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Fatima, we hope to celebrate Mass in the new church building by September 2013.
The estimated cost of the building inclusive of furniture and other fittings is now RM4 Million. To all our benefactors who had donated and who will donate towards our building fund, we say a big thank you. As Fr Lawrence always says, nothing is impossible when you pray and trust in the Lord. He will surely provide.
