SUNGAI PETANI: Members of the St Vincent de Paul Society of Sungai Petani, brought cheer to some 40 needy families at its annual Christmas party for the poor. The guests who numbered more than 100 people including many children were treated to a sumptuous meal.

The children had fun playing games and joining in the Christmas carols, which were sung by Christ the King Church carollers. There were also presents for everyone including foodstuff like rice, milk and other goodies as well as ang pow gift packets for the families. The event was held at the Church premises on Sunday Dec 19.

A few days earlier the society had organized a Coffee Morning and garage sale which netted more than RM1,500, for its activities for the poor. The society supports 40 needy families in Kedah’s Kuala Muda district by providing them monthly rations of foodstuff as well as medical and educational aid. — By Anne Haslam
