The Malacca-Johore Diocese (MJD) Campus Ministry, in collaboration with CF FIRE from the Temenggong Ibrahim Teachers’ Education Institute (IPGKTI), Johor Bahru, organised a mission trip to Sabah led by Daryl Tan and Hemeliza Lasayung, December 4-10, 2017. In addition to the MJD’s Campus Ministry Officer, Daryl, eight people participated in the mission trip: five from the Temenggong Ibrahim Johor Teachers’ Education Institute, one from KSKB Johor, a school teacher, and Roney Eming, the Campus Ministry Officer from the Diocese of Keningau. This programme was the second one run by IPGKTI.

The first programme was held in Kota Belud, Sabah

It was a challenge for the participants as they had to travel to Pensiangan, located in the interior of Sabah where there was neither telephones nor electricity. This mission trip offered a thousand meanings due to the many new experiences they gained throughout the length of the programme.

There were many activities that the missionaries participated in with the villagers, from the children, the youth and the parents, motivating them with a talk on the theme I am Special so that it would have a positive impact. The participants also helped to level the ground for a kindergarten that will be built there.
One of the missionaries asked a youth, “Is there anything that you feel is lacking here?” The youth replied, “No; because we feel that we have everything and nothing is lacking.” That response surprised the missionaries because they thought that the youth was going to say that they lacked many things. That answer showed that the people in the village are grateful and appreciative of everything that they have.

This mission trip also provided exposure to these young missionaries should they be sent again into the interior when they begin to work.

We would also like to thank all those who directly or indirectly contributed and supported the mission trip. Finally, we hope this mission trip programme will continue to be held in the future. “Get out of your comfort zones and you will encounter something that you will not forget!”
