Archbishop Moses M. Costa of Chittagong is struggling between life and death after being infected by Covid-19. On 13 June he was transported by helicopter to the capital's Square Hospital. Doctors have confirmed that he is positive for coronavirus and recognize that his physical condition is getting worse and worse.

The Archbishop of Dhaka, Card. Patrick D’Rozario, is also hospitalized in the same hospital. However he is being treated for Dengue fever.

The cardinal sent a message to all the faithful and religious leaders asking "to kneel and pray for the healing of Archbishop Moses. Even his doctor, Mr. Rabbani, who is also mine while I am hospitalized at Square Hospital, asked me and others to pray. From doctors and nurses, I receive daily updates on Archbishop Moses. But I can't have direct communication. With your prayers and the grace of God, for my part I feel better after the attack by Dengue ".

Even the vicar general of the diocese of Chittagong, Fr. Leonard C. Reberio, tells AsiaNews that “Msgr. Costa is very ill and has tested positive for coronavirus. I ask all the faithful to offer special prayers and petitions for his recovery ".

Medical sources confirm that Msgr. Costa is in intensive care.

Meanwhile, infections and deaths are growing all over the country. Yesterday was the 100th day since the outbreak in Bangladesh, which reached 90,000 positive cases and 1209 deaths.

The churches, which were closed for a long time, were reopened two days ago, but few faithful dare to participate.

Covid-19 is making victims everywhere: two ministers and seven members of parliament tested positive; the former health minister, Mohammed Nasim, 72, of the Awami League, died on 13 June of complications related to the coronavirus. The minister for religious affairs, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, 75, also died of cardiac arrest, being positive for Covid-19.

In the Christian world, at least four members have died so far from coronavirus; six others died of complications from the virus. Most people do not receive adequate care in state hospitals. For this reason, even politicians seek treatment in private hospitals.

For the pandemic, the government has decided to keep schools closed until August 6 and has designated some "red areas" isolating them because of the high rate of infection.--Asia News
