KENINGAU: The celebration of the Chrism Mass — renewal of priestly commitment, and the consecration of the oils — took place at St Francis Xavier Cathedral on April 15, with nearly 2,000 faithful present.

In his homily, Bishop Cornelius Piong reminded the priests that their main calling is to proclaim the good news. The priestly vocation is to be lived in the power of the Holy Spirit and to serve in the Spirit of Jesus.

For 25 years, the diocesan mission was to form a faithful and effective community, to serve and journey together in faith in the Diocese of Keningau. Hence, pastoral activities in the parishes are focused to realise the diocesan mission. To make the diocesan mission concrete, the leaders and lay people should strengthen their relationship with Jesus.

Bishop Piong stressed that we need the Holy Spirit to lead and dominate our life. He asked the priests, religious and the faithful to always examine and renew their commitment to God.

The prelate explained that the Church provides many alternatives, especially in this modern era, through mass media such as Gospel and reflection through gadget applications eg: Kupi Rohani, Fresh Juice and many more.

He also reminded all the faithful to participate in the Adoration and Holy Hour at each parish.

He ended his homily by calling on the people to pray daily for the clergy.

After the homily, the 22 diocesan and two religious priests stood before the Bishop to renew their priestly commitment to serve the Church, a promise which they first made at their ordination.

After the renewal of priestly promises, Bishop Piong consecrated the Oil of Catechumens, Oil of the Sick and the Holy Chrism, brought by Seminarians Wilfred James, Michael Dass and Morti Lumutan. -- KOMSOS
