KUCHING: On 9 June 2019, the Pentecost Sunday morning Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) commenced with Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung celebrating the 8 AM Chinese Mass.

The 10 AM English morning Mass was celebrated by BSC Rector, Fr Felix Au and it included praying in tongues and ministering to those with needs, by the healing ministry of the Emmaus Servant Community.

Then in the afternoon, the Archdiocesan Charismatic Renewal Team and the Kuching Archdiocese Ministry of Deliverance and Exorcism (KAMODE), came together for the Archdiocesan Pentecost Rally, organised jointly for the first time.

It attracted a huge congregation who had come from the city parishes to pray for healing.

The prayer groups and covenant communities comprised Bread of Life, Holy Cross, Divine Mercy, St Ann’s, and Emmaus Servant Community.

The rally kicked off at 2 PM with a praise and worship session led by Bread of Life.

The first talk was delivered by Joseph Chee from Kota Kinabalu. His topic covered his own conversion as well as the formation of Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in Sabah.

Alex Bong from Holy Cross ministry, expounded on the power of the Holy Spirit.

In celebrating the charismatic Mass, Archbishop Simon Poh, with Fr Felix Au and Fr Larry Tan concelebrating, called on the Holy Spirit to pour afresh upon the congregation.

Earlier in his homily, Archbishop Simon also spoke on the power of the Holy Spirit. He called on all baptised Catholics to open up to the Holy Spirit already within us. We are to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, even when we pray for deliverance, empowerment or whatever needs we may have in our lives.

When he commissioned the newly baptised (neophytes) as missionary disciples, Archbishop Simon told them to remain faithful to the Holy Spirit, and to allow the Holy Spirit to do wonderful things in their lives.

The Pentecost rally ended with a ministering session for those who had come for healing. Light refreshment was also served.--Today's Catholic
