The Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHDM) of the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist started the year on a busy note.

On Saturday, January 8, two teams set to work as early as 8.00am. One team was busy sorting out monthly food provisions, which included aromatics for the first time, for the adoptees of the Cathedral.

The other team was putting the final touches to the Christmas party specially organised for 24 refugee children and seven volunteers from the CEAM (Cho’ Ethnic Association Malaysia) Community which has a membership of over 5,000 individuals throughout Malaysia. Of the attendees, seven children had lost their fathers and others had parents working outstation in Cameron Highlands, Pahang and Johor. As there are no refugee schools in these places, the Cho’ community helps to house them here.

Arriving at the church grounds in a bus was truly exciting for the children as this was their first outing since the MCO.

Msgr Leonard Lexson graced the occasion with the Opening Prayer on his second last day as parish priest. The children were then taken to the Nativity scene where the true meaning of Christmas was narrated to them, followed by the singing of carols.

Party packs, games, food and drinks were then distributed to the young ones who had a fun time running around in a safe, spacious environment so different from their shop lot shelters.

The highlight of the day was the KFC lunch for all. The day culminated with the presentation of Christmas gifts to all the children and their volunteers by Santarina. Their bus was laden with donations of stationery, fruits, cakes, chocolates, biscuits and the children, with beaming smiles all around, as it departed.

The PIHDM was delighted to have Josephine Tay from the Archdiocese Office of Human Development, Lydia and James from PIHDM of the Church of Sacred Heart at the party.

Grateful thanks to all who helped behind the scenes on the day of the party and to the BECs for their generous contributions towards this joyful event.
