The Catholic Business Expo held on June 9 was another idea by Fr Dominic Santhiyagu, Parish Priest of the Butterworth Parish (Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (NVBM) and Chapel of Sts Chastan and Imbert (SCIC)). Thirty-one booths were opened to parishioners from 9.30am to 12 noon at the SCIC Hall. The Catholic Business Expo provided the opportunity for parishioners to promote their businesses.

There were booths promoting food and beverage, baking, tailoring, tutoring, multilevel marketing, web designing, home-deco, renovation works, arts and design, florists and investment and insurance. The event began with Fr Dom blessing the participants and the visitors. Then he introduced the participants and their businesses.

For many it was a time to make new connections with parishioners they had seen but never interacted with before. Most of the visitors felt comfortable to engage with fellow parishioners. Likewise, the business exhibitors too felt encouraged with the overwhelming support.

Thomas, an artist, commented that he was truly appreciative of the EXPO as it brought the community together in a friendly and professional environment. Juliana, an exhibitor on wellness, hoped that such events would be organised more regularly where activities and workshops could be held. Dr Rose, a visitor, said that the idea of the EXPO was really good and provided an opportunity to support fellow parishioners. The PPC Chair, Stephen Chin, was happy with the overwhelming support and hoped to print a business directory for the parishioners. The organisers, Francis Kow and his RCIA team were happy with the success of this EXPO. He said that the 3,000 parishioners provided a good opportunity for activities to get to know one another and to support one another.

Everyone was grateful to Fr Dom for his efforts to bring the community together. The EXPO ended with lucky draws for visitors and participants.
