PETALING JAYA (Herald Malaysia): Catholic High School celebrated its 60th anniversary on Friday, June 24 with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the school hall. The event saw the attendance of the Marist Brothers who are the founders, former principals, teachers and students of the school. Also present were the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM) Sisters affiliated with SMK Assunta and Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya, teachers, students and their families. Almost the entire non-Muslim student population of Forms 3, 4 and 5, numbering more than 1,500 boys and girls were present.

Archbishop Julian Leow was the main celebrant, with Fr Andrew Wong, Fr Lawrence Andrew, Fr Alberto Irenus and Fr Stephen Ng concelebrating.

The Archbishop admired the discipline and courtesy shown by the non-Catholic students who followed the Mass respectfully even though many of them may not have understood the proceedings of a Catholic Mass.

The school principal, Ong Boon Puah, expressed his deep gratitude to the attendees for being part of the anniversary celebrations.

“Throughout the 60 years since the school’s establishment, Catholic High School has held on to the vision of educating, enlightening and empowering students, as well as in shaping them into wellrounded, holistic individuals.

“Academic excellence is not the only requirement for our students but also, the possession of good moral values,” said Ong.

The Provincial of the Marist Brothers of East Asia Province, Bro Robert Teoh said, “Living in a multiracial nation, we need tolerance and respect to achieve peace, harmony and unity in diversity.”

Bro Teoh was also grateful for the contributions made by the Marist Brothers, teachers, students and parents in building the school’s reputation and hoped such contributions would continue in the future.

Besides the Diamond Jubilee Mass, Catholic High School has other exciting events throughout its 60th year, which included the Diamond Jubilee Road Run in February and the Diamond Jubilee Musical Extravaganza on 25th June. The Diamond Jubilee Carnival will be held on July 31, 2016
