Praise the Lord, Alleluia was their theme of joy and praise as the children came together for the first ever Joy Camp to be held in City Parish.

More than 100 participants gathered at the Church of St Francis Xavier on November 12 for a day of games, fellowship and worship organised by the Catechetical Committee.

Parish priests Fr Nelson Chitty and Fr Joachim Robert urged the children to “remain joyful disciples of God in coming together as a family to praise His name.” Sessions and games were prepared for the children, facilitated by the Islanders’ Tamil Youth Network (ITYN) and St Francis Xavier Youth Ministry.

The outdoor games included Bible verse puzzles and using play dough to construct models based on The Book of Genesis. The children used their creativity to answer those questions.

The indoor sessions focused on the seven Hebrew words of praise from the Bible for teenagers, as well as action song performances for the younger children.

The children not only practised teamwork and cooperation in all their activities but, in return, they increased their love and knowledge towards the Catholic faith.

Catechetical Committee coordinator Santha Melina thanked the parish priests, sponsors and volunteers who came to help.

“I can see a sense of teamwork and family spirit among all the catechists, and I hope that this can be organised as a yearly event,” she said.

Joy Camp coordinator Rosalind Victor said that this programme was to help all the children to experience Jesus through praise and to deepen their faith.

“Throughout the activities, I could see that the children were so excited as they participated in all the games and sessions,” she said.
