Dear Editor,
I write to congratulate Fr. Guston Pietri for his honesty to express the concern of the practice of Catholicism in France (Trending Page 3 HERALD January 12, 2020) with respect to the dwindling decline of a Catholic nation where only 30 per cent of the population were baptised in early childhood.

What about the reality in Malaysia? Wikipedia reported a Christian population of 9.2 per cent with about 3.6 per cent being Catholics. While the total Christian Population hovers around 10 per cent, the Catholic portion of over 50 per cent in past years has dwindled down to only 3.6 per cent.    Should we be complacent? Pope Francis is leading the renewal towards Re-evangelisation.

The Catholic population is naturally augmented by adult baptism each Easter. But what category of adults we attract to the way of Catholic practice in professing faith and practice of Christian virtues? To me, senior adults tend to find Catholicism very comfortable, easy and safe to comply with its many structured prayers and faith practices. How then can we motivate each and every existing Catholic and those attracted to the Christian Way of life to be better Catholics? This is the searching issue the Catholic Community must urgently recognise and act upon in good time to further arrest the deterioration in this ever increasingly secular world. How can our faith practice keep up with the changing time and yet retain the true essence of the teaching is something we need to ponder on and act upon. Thank you.
