PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 170 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Apr 7), taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 3,963 cases.

The country also reported one new death, bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 63.

This translates to a fatality rate of less than 2% out of the total number of cases, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at the ministry’s daily Covid-19 briefing here.

In terms of recoveries, Malaysia discharged 80 more patients as of 12pm on Tuesday.

The rate of Covid-19 recovery in Malaysia is 33.3% out of the total number of positive cases.

Currently, 92 patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 50 of them requiring the use of ventilators.

The latest Covid-19 death case was a Malaysian male, aged 71, with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. He attended a religious gathering in Sulawesi, Indonesia and was admitted to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Kalsom in Johor.

He passed away on April 6,11pm.

Meanwhile, Malaysia has entered its 21st day of the movement control order (MCO), with people instructed to stay at home and movement heavily restricted.

The MCO is scheduled to end on April 14, barring any further extensions by the government.

Earlier, the government added two more locations to the enhanced MCO list – the Selangor Mansion and the Malayan Mansion buildings in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.

Residents in enchanced MCO areas are not allowed to leave their homes while outsiders are barred from entering. Food is provided by the government and is delivered to each affected household.--The Star Online
