LAHAD DATU (Herald Malaysia): Members of the Diocesan Education Commission convened at St Dominic’s Church on Nov 29 and 30 for their second meeting and formation session for 2014.

The meeting touched on five main items:

-- proposed constitution
--roles and functions
--instrument of government
--constitution for alumni in mission schools
--government grants (Federal and State)

The formation covered the areas of the ethos, special character and traditions of Christian Mission Schools. The School Board of Governors (SBOGs) must endeavour to preserve and maintain the identity of the mission schools at all times as these schools are a valuable asset to the nation. All stakeholders — parents, staff and SBOGs — are to collaborate to ensure that such traditions are upheld so that mission schools may continue to succeed in the field of education, pertinent to the development of the nation.

Commission members visited St Dominic’s Primary and Secondary Schools, next to St Dominic’s Church. Both schools have maximized the usage of the limited land area of some 2.8 acres. Many new structures were put in place in recent years to benefit the students and staff of both schools. On hand to brief the members were Puan Wong, the Principal of the Secondary School and Puan Seow, Headmistress of the Primary School
