Johor’s oldest Catholic mission school for boys, St Joseph School (SJS), will turn 60 in February next year, and the organizing committee for the event have already gone full swing into their preparations for a grand reunion.

The dignitaries who will be attending the event include Bishop Sebastian Francis of Penang, Fr Mark Tee, SG, and Bro Dominic Yeo Koh, SG.

Bishop Francis was a former student of the school, before leaving to further his studies in Singapore. Fr Tee, SG, was a former brother-director of the school. Bro Dominic is the provincial of the Brothers of St Gabriel of Malaysia and Singapore.

The event, dubbed 60 years and Still Growing, will be held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, February 14.

Some 100 old boys and 40 retired teachers and principals are expected to grace this memorable event to mark the school’s 60th anniversary.

Paul Netto, the organizing chairman of the grand reunion said, “The day is going to be a nostalgic affair. It will be an emotional gathering as we have not seen each other and the teachers after leaving school so many years ago.”

“The day will begin with a tour of the school in the morning. A number of retired teachers who had been with the school for a long period will address the old boys,” he said.

The teachers and old boys will take a walk down memory lane at their alma mater, spend some moments in the classrooms and tour the school for sentimental reasons. “A few of our former teachers will join us and re-live the memories to bring back the vivid pictures of the past.”

According to Netto, SJS has left a lasting impression and moulded many young boys. And, he says, many old students from 1955 will be returning for this joyous occasion.

Netto urged former students of SJS who are keen to attend the event and join in the celebration, to call Donald Culas: 012-7113992, Chai Meng: 016-7940335 or Netto: 012-7225218.
