VATICAN: The Jesuit Curia in Roma has released a video message from Fr Arturo Sosa SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, for the 50th anniversary of Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES).

Beginning its journey in 1969, the Secretariat endeavours to work with people for change to bring the charity and the justice of the Gospel to society and culture. Its members assist Fr General in developing the apostolic mission of the Society, in its dimension for promoting justice and reconciliation with creation, both at the level of the Conferences and Provinces in the Society of Jesus, and establishing collaborations between apostolic sectors and paying special attention to the social apostolate.

Fr Sosa says: "This is not only a time of renewal for our institutions, social centres or for members of social apostolates. It is a moment that must permeate the entire Society of Jesus, all Jesuits and all our partners in the mission."

The three-phase celebration involves Provinces, Conferences and the Universal Society. It will culminate with a gathering of Jesuits and partners in Rome in November 2019; it will be an opportunity to discern the roadmap to implement the Universal Apostolic Preferences that will be announced in February.--ICN
