KUCHING: The Kuching Young Christian Students (KYCS) held their second Student-Leader Animators Gathering (SLAG) on September 22 at the St Rose Conference Hall, Archdiocesan Curia and Cathedral Pastoral Centre (ACCPC).

The main objective of this gathering was to bring together the committees of the Young Christian Students from several schools: SMK St Joseph, SMK St Teresa, SMK Batu Lintang, St Joseph’s Private School, SMK Green Road and SMK Penrissen No.1.

This gathering had 50 attendees, including the senior animators, Mark Ethan, Esther Chai, Rachel Tiong and Alex Tai. The gathering started off with an ice breaking game called ‘Chinese Whisper’ to help bond the committees from different schools.

A talk was given by Esther Chai which focused on several pollutions that are affecting mother nature and human beings. Esther related the theme Pollution to the YCS’ motto, ‘See, Judge and Act’. This matter brought to everyone’s attention that the Earth matters as it is one of God’s greatest gifts to us humans.

After the talk, a discussion on when the next Joseph Cardijn Camp, JC Camp in short, would be held. The dates fixed are 26th-28th November 2018. Thirteen committee leaders from 13 different ministries were elected. They would work together before and throughout the entire camp. The election of the coordinator and vice coordinator for the KYCS’ Christmas Carolling was done voluntarily.

This youth gathering ended with a lesson to everyone that it is our job to take care of God’s greatest gift, our mother nature. -- By Easther Edele KYCS SMK St Theresa
