On Saturday, March 9, Fr Nicholas Hoh OCD, conducted a one day Lenten Recollection for 250 parishioners in the Church of St Thomas More (STM). Participants included parishioners from other churches.

Fr. Hoh, a Carmelite, was ordained a year ago in STM. He is currently serving in Seremban. Returning to conduct this retreat in his former parish was special to him.

The retreat was centred on the Carmelite spirituality of St John of the Cross and St Theresa of Avila. “Conquering the tongue is better than fasting on bread and water.” (St John of the Cross)
Reflecting on Pope Francis’ Ash Wednesday homily, Fr Hoh stressed that we were created for God and the eternity of

Heaven, not for the world and earthly deceit. We were created to be free, not to be enslaved to earthly things. We need to empty ourselves in order to be filled by Christ. We have to clean the dirty windows of our lives for the light of Christ to shine through. Prayer, fasting and charity will help us in this spiritual journey through Lent.

Throughout Lent there is also a two hour Eucharistic Adoration nightly in STM. All parish ministries and BECs are mobilised each night to execute this activity.

STM wishes everyone a holy and blessed Lenten season.
