VATICAN CITY: At 6.40 p.m. Thursday evening the fourth and last meeting of the Holy Father with 34 Chilean Bishops ended in the room by the Paul VI Audience Hall. At the end of this period of discernment and of this fraternal meeting, Pope Francis gave each of His brothers the following letter (original in Spanish):

Dear brothers in the episcopate, I wish to thank you for having accepted my invitation so that, together, we may make a frank discernment on the serious events that have damaged the ecclesial communion and undermined the work of the Church in Chile over the last years.

In the light of these painful events concerning the abuse, of minors, of power and conscience, we exchanged views on their seriousness as well as on the tragic consequences that they had, particularly for the victims.

To each of them, I wholeheartedly asked for forgiveness, to which you have united in one will and with the firm intention of repairing the damage done. I thank you for the total willingness each of one of you has shown to join and collaborate in all the changes and resolutions that we will have to implement in the short, medium and long term to restore justice and ecclesial communion.

After these days of prayer and reflection, I mandate you to continue to build a prophetic Church that can put what is most important in the centre: the service to the Lord in the hungry, in the prisoner, in the migrant, in the abused.

Please, do not forget to pray for me. May Jesus bless you and the Virgin Mary take care of you.--Vatican News
