If you strip away the crowd, electronics and dancing, you’ll have a soaring melody and soothing harmony tugging at the heartstrings to take your breath away and bring you back to the heart of worship. At its bones, music is the invention of God, composed to reflect the breadth of Scripture, for His pleasure, as well as ours.

On Aug 26, the St Louis Youth (SLY) of Kluang, after three months of preparation and empowered by the spirit of God, took a congregation of more than 180 from Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Johor on a flight for refuge, escaping from the world and fear of man into the comforting arms of our Father. The worship session opened with “Your Grace is Enough” that engaged the crowd, followed by the theme song, Rooftops with lyrics that echoed the cries of our soul: “So I shout out Your name, From the rooftops I proclaim, That I am Yours, I am Yours.” In an age of distraction, this journey nudged us towards the direction of our pursuit of holiness and restoration of body, mind and spirit.

These passionate youths, charged with faith and exuberant joy, have been giving their all for the success of this worship night: travelling far and wide for weekly meetings and music practices, not to mention fund raising activities, and praise and worship workshops.

The night was an incredible blend of intimacy, prayerful moments and a dose of techno-driven rock which injected a contagious energy that appealed to all generations present. “Since Your Love” was a unique acoustic driven song that heartened us to dig deep roots in His Word “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17. WARNING: Song contains infectious lyrics! On the other hand, “Jump Around” was a fun and catchy number, which got the congregation on their feet. Fans of 80s disco, 90s R&B and the current generation were all ready to loudly praise, bounce and jump the night away for the glory of God.

Youth gatherings are conducted every third weekend of the month, to congregate the youths and foster their relationship with Christ. Meetings are focused primarily on developing ‘sticky faith’ among these fervent, restless and driven youths in order to strengthen their skills for ministry and influence their everyday decisions and interactions with the world around them. In addition to the food, games and more food, the core agenda of these gatherings lies in Bible sharing: encouraging these youths to wrestle with and dissect the relationship Jesus had with his disciples and how He craves our very lives, not just our half-hearted allegiance. All these, topped with the encouragement of SLY advisors, Predith, Julian and Ann, have moulded and cast these youngsters into servant leaders, which was a proven fact that fruitful night.

Worship now. Worship tomorrow. Eternity awaits.
