At the moment, there are 60 priests in active ministry in the Archdiocese of KL shared Fr Simon Lau (pic). Most of them are in their 60s, 70s and 80s. In 25 years (that is, after one generation); there may be 16 priests (including four religious priests). This means that by 2045, of the present diocesan priests, only 12 of us may still be around, and if we are, most us will be in our 70s.

Seminary formation takes nine years. Presently, there are nine seminarians from the Archdiocese of KL. This equates to one seminarian per year. Let us estimate that in the next 25 years there are 25 seminarians; and if we follow the success rate of 60 per cent based on past figures of seminarians becoming priests, in 25 years, there may be 15 new priests. Therefore, in 25 years; we may have 12 + 15 that is, a total of 27 priests.
