ROME: In an audience with Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Pope Francis approved the publication of a decree on a miracle attributed to the intercession of Pope Paul VI (1897-1978).

The approval clears the way for his beatification, which will take place on October 19, at the conclusion of the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the family.

Pope Francis also approved the publication of a decree on a miracle attributed to the intercession of Father Luigi Caburlotto (1817-97), a Venetian priest who founded the Institute of the Daughters of St. Joseph. St. John Paul II declared him venerable in 1994.

In addition, Pope Francis approved the publication of decrees on the heroic virtues of Father Giacomo Abbondo (1720-88), an Italian diocesan priest; Father Giacinto Alegre Pujals (1874-1930), a Spanish Jesuit; and Carla Barbara Colchen Carre de Malberg (1829-91), a French wife and mother who founded a religious community, the Society of the Daughters of St. Francis de Sales, after the death of her four children. The three servants of God may now be called “venerable.”--CWN
