The Taiping Catholic Church is blessed to have Clement Samuel Gomez, who served the church as an Altar boy and is now a Permanent Deacon. The Mass was celebrated on Nov 21 by Penang Bishop Sebastian Francis, together with some priests.

The celebration of the feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was so appropriate with Deacon Clement Samuel’s theme Do whatever He tells you. Jn2:5.

In his homily, Bishop Sebastian explained briefly the role of a Deacon. “A deacon is a servant. We do all kinds of service but today, it is about Clement being a servant for the rest of his life. Who are the servants whom Mother Mary was telling to “Do whatever He tells you”? There is another servant here and it is none other than Christ the Servant.

“There are three offices connected to that of the Deacon Ministry:

- The Office of the Altar;
- The Office of the Word
- Primarily the Office of the Servant of love and charity.

“As a bishop, I am incomplete without the people and the deacon. Deacon Clement Samuel is the extension of the servant in his obedience, as well as his prophetic role.

“I accepted this ministry of the diaconate knowing fully that it would be filled with many challenges, but obedience to God will always bring many good things,” said Deacon Clement in his speech. He also took the opportunity to thank everyone for their presence and prayers.

A fellowship dinner was held in the hall with a three-piece band, D’Revivers, to entertain the guests and parishioners.
