PENANG: The Church of Immaculate Conception (CIC) in Pulau Tikus received a token sum of RM100,000 to spur their fundraising efforts.

A four-storey building with sub-basement car park, multi-purpose hall, classrooms, meeting rooms, senior citizens’ lounge and two funeral parlours will serve the needs of the parish and the local community. The new building is expected to be fully functional by mid-2017. So far, RM9 million have been raised but the funds are still short of RM3 million.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and assembly member of Pulau Tikus, Yap Soo Huey were welcomed by parish priest Msgr Michael Cheah and parish council chairman David Sivapatham together with the parishioners.

“The New Parish Centre is a much needed facility to cater not only for the current needs of the Parish but also the future needs of our community. In short, we are building with a long term view in mind,” Msgr Cheah said in a short speech. -- Source CM Lim Guan Eng FB post
