Despite the haze that has been plaguing Malaysia these past weeks, Petaling district parishioners gathered at the Church of St Francis Xavier for a sports meet.

The day began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Julian Leow, concelebrated with the priests from the Petaling District parishes.

In his sermon, Archbishop Leow said that we should continue to pray for everyone, especially for our King, for our leaders, civil and religious alike.

“We should never stop praying, never stop petitioning and also giving thanks, so that we may lead religious and reverend lives in peace and quiet. It is a selfish motive, that we want to pray here in church in peace and quiet without being hassled or persecuted like in some countries,” he said.

After the final blessing, the priest advisor for the Petaling District games thanked the committee and those involved in the preparations, as well as the athletes taking part in the games.

Following that, Archbishop Leow gave a short address before declaring the games open. “I encourage everyone to stay back to support their fellow parishioners who will be representing their parish in various games,” he said.

After Mass, the athletes, their fellow parish priests and parishioners adjourned to the Catholic High School for the commencement of the games.
