Fr Michael Dass, the parish priest of the Church of St Mary, gave a short reflection on Mission to 40 pilgrims from Kuala Lumpur recently.

The reflection was held in conjunction with the Extraordinary Missionary Year 2019. He said all of us are people on a pilgrimage, to do mission.

“We are all baptised, have the Holy Spirit in us, are walking temples of God. Let others see Jesus in us. All of us are missionaries. We have talents and must make time to share God’s love and presence with others, along with works of charity.”

The diocesan priest added that each of us is born as a missionary, sent as missionary to be productive, spending time with others, sharing Jesus. Fr Michael then shared some points for us to go on mission:

M - Mary as our role model, served Jesus from womb to tomb. Before the first miracle at Cana, Mary said, “Do as He tells you” and she gave glory to God.

I - Inspiration. “The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for He has anointed me”.
S - Sacrifice and service. We can give our time, talents and treasure in doing God’s mission.
S - Spirituality (simply means our relationship with God). How is your spirituality? How is your relationship with God?
I - Independent/Initiative. Our free will, either to choose to do good or not. We can choose to do His will, as we are all from God.
O - Obedience. Unconditional trust in God.
N - Now. We are baptised. Look for opportunities in our daily life to bring Jesus to others.

Fr Michael said to deepen our spirituality and personal relationship with God, we need to read the Bible and follow the lives of the saints, which can inspire us to be ‘Jesus’ to others.

Earlier, the pilgrims had a prayer session which focused on mission and evangelisation.
