BANGUI: Pope Francis an unscheduled visit to a children’s hospital in Bangui on Sunday evening.

According to Vatican Radio, the Pope met with patients and staff at the hospital in Central African Republic’s capital, taking medicine with him, donated by Rome’s Bambino Gesu children’s hospital.

Before heading home to Rome today, Pope Francis visited the main mosque in Bangui’s volatile Muslim neighbourhood of PK5 and celebrated Mass in the city’s Barthélémy Boganda Stadium.

During his visit to the mosque, the Pope called on Muslims and Christians in the conflict-ravaged country to reject hatred.

“Christians and Muslims and members of traditional religions have lived peacefully for many years,” he said.

“Together, we say no to hatred, to vengeance and violence, especially that committed in the name of a religion or God.”--Catholic Herald
