KUALA LUMPUR: Lent is approaching and once again the Lenten Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (PEA) will be held at St Ignatius Church (SIC) commencing on Ash Wednesday (midnight, March 6) up to Good Friday (6.00am, April 19) and, by God’s grace, to continue on from Easter midnight to year end.

Two years ago, the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur held a Eucharistic Conference on November 11, 2017 at SIC. The Conference was overwhelmingly supported by Catholics from the KL Archdiocese, Sabah and Sarawak amongst others.

Encouraged by this zeal for Eucharistic Adoration, Parish Priest, Fr Andrew Wong, CDD, with the encouragement of Archbishop Julian Leow, ignited the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (PEA).

During Lent of 2018, a PEA was held successfully in SIC. This adoration success was due to SIC parishioners who, together with the Archdiocese of KL, demonstrated their ardour before the real and mysterious presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist. SIC then took the initiative to have a weekly PEA every Wednesday (24hrs) and this was met with joyful enthusiasm from the community.

In A Forgotten Source of Blessings, St Peter Julian Eymard says: “Exposition is the sovereign grace, the life-blood of the Church and the faithful,” and “Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is the grace and the need of our times.” God’s love for man has been so great through eternity, that the Son of God let Himself be seen.

We should all be so grateful that our God loves us so much. Let us as devout Catholics adore our Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and God, our basis and only grace of salvation. “The hour is coming, and now it’s here. Worshippers will worship the Father in the spirit and truth.” (John 4:23). These were Jesus’ words to the Samaritan woman at the well of Sicar. The adoration of the Eucharist is the recognition of the real presence of Christ outside of the celebration of the Mass by which we open ourselves to the experience of God.
