KUALA LUMPUR: It was a fun-filled day for the Catechism students (English section) of the Church of the Holy Rosary (HRC) in Brickfields as they converged for their bi-annual Family Day together with their parents and their catechists.
The day-long event held on July 4 was declared open by HRC parish priest, Msgr Daniel Lim. He also gave some words of encouragement to the students and parents numbering more than 150.
Maria Kim, the coordinator said that the objectives were three-fold, namely: To build a strong bond and communication between the parents and catechists; to share the experience of God’s love through communicating and interacting among the students, parents and catechists; and to have fun being together as a living community.
After a brief Praise & Worship session held in Dewan John Hsiong, the students from Standard One to Confirmation Class were excited and eager for the Treasure Hunt held around the church grounds. Various activities were organized with prizes for the winners. Among the games were Donkey Tail, Longest Line and Balloon and Traffic games.
A talentine was also held providing an avenue for the students, parents and catechists to demonstrate their talents. Lucky draws were also held to make the Family Day as exciting as possible.
While tucking in their potluck lunch, catechists were able to get more acquainted with the children’s parents and through informal discussions were able to understand and know the students better.
Kim also believed that by working together in this event, a closer comradeship and cooperation could be further developed among the catechists.
Parents who took the trouble to prepare home-cooked foods for the event appreciated the gifts of hampers they received.
