PORT DICKSON : Thirtythree children from the English and Tamil Sunday School of St Joseph’s Church, Sentul attended a Holy Communion Camp at the Infant Jesus Convent.
The nine-year olds are in the final stages of being prepared to receive the Eucharist for the first time on Nov 22 which is also the Feast of Christ the King.
“God’s Love” and “Forgiveness” were the main theme for the camp as the children were taught to truly understand what receiving the Body of Christ meant for Catholics. The children expressed their desire to receive the Body of Christ because they want to grow in faith with Him. There were plenty of exciting activities planned by the group of facilitators led by Molly Alex and Eleanor Tennakoon. Mrs Priscilla Gregory, Catechetical Coordinator of St Joseph’s, expressed her gratitude to the teachers and youths who were sincere, committed and gave whole heartedly to make the camp a success.
One of the highlights was a session on the consequences of sin and what it does to our relationship with God. The children were asked to recall their sins, and then using a nail, poked holes on a Styrofoam board according to their number of sins. When the facilitators revealed a picture of Christ’s face (which was pasted upside down on the Styrofoam) with so many holes in it, the children were both touched and saddened. Even teachers were moved to tears during that particular session.
In between sessions, the children were taught some beautiful praise and worship songs, which they really enjoyed.
With God’s great blessing and His grace, all went truly well and indeed the presence of the Holy Spirit was felt. We continue to pray for these children and all other children receiving Holy Communion this year, as they continue their journey in life, as they walk with Jesus in faith, hope and love. — By Angelyn Lalitha
