KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat has come out in support of the Catholic weekly Herald use of ‘Allah’ to describe the Christian God in the national language, saying it was permissible for those following the Abrahamic faith.
But the popular cleric expressed worry that the word “Allah” could be abused by certain quarters, echoing growing sentiment of Muslim Malaysians aghast at the Dec 31 High Court ruling that permitted its use.
“Its just a fear it can be abused. That’s the worry,” the Kelantan mentri besar said today when commenting on the landmark ruling.
Justice Datuk Lau Bee Lan said in her oral judgment that the Herald had a constitutional right to use the word, touching off a controversy that has led some Muslim groups to protest the ruling.
The government has said it will appeal against the ruling. A group has already started a Facebook group to get the government to reverse the ruling.
However, others including influential cleric and former Perlis mufti Dr Asri Zainal Abidin, have supported the ruling, saying all are encouraged to follow Allah.
Speaking to reporters after launching the state Women, Family and Health Development Secretariat, Nik Aziz said the authorities, such as scholars, should have a dialogue with the Christian clergy over the issue.
“This is so that there is no confusion among the society.
“In fact, Islamic philosophy itself can be spread through such events,” he added.
The PAS Kelantan commissioner also said he was willing to attend such events if it was organised.
However, PAS Kelantan Council of Religious Scholars chief Datuk Mohammad Daud Iraqi declined to comment on the issue.
Instead, he said it was weaknesses in the government in monitoring the issue that has led to the controversy.
“This is not a new issue, it has gone on so long. The government should have looked specifically into the laws earlier on,” he added.

Dear Interfaith Activists or Participants: The kalimah 'Allah' was never used in the Old Testament and the New Testament which were originally discovered and found by sc
riptural scholars and archeological researchers to have been written in Hebrew and Greek, respectively. Only when these two scriptures were later translated into other languages, including Arabic, then only Arab Christians, who did and still now do NOT speak neither Hebrew nor Greek, used and still use the kalimah 'Allah'. In fact, unlike Muslims who have to say prayers in Arabic, non-Arab Christians like those Malaysian Christians in particular know for a fact that they are NOT required to say prayers in Arabic, like using the word 'Allah' in particular. It is therefore more preferable for those non-Arab Christians to use 'Elohim' and 'Theos' to denote God or Tuhan, since both of their scriptures as mentioned previously were originally written in Hebrew and Greek, respectively. If non-Arab Malaysian Christians insist on using 'Allah', then they may say 'Allah Bapa' implying needing 'Allah Ibu' in order to beget or beranak-pinak, where the Trinity requires Allah to have partners or associates, and they are thus in violation of "The Lord our God is one Lord" (Mark 12:29). Moreover, (they) the Malaysian Christians in particular may subsequently confuse to insult or offend their Muslim neighbors by causing animosity by advocating that Allah begets and is begotten as well as having partners or associates. Therefore, those Malaysian Christians are apparently in violation of the first two commandments, which are of the utmost importance in the ten commandments. You got to see how flexible and tolerant the Malaysian Muslims have been in allowing those Malaysian Christians to use the word 'Tuhan' instead of 'Elohim' and 'Theos' to denote 'Allah'. Next time, please rely more on basic common sense instead of on the highly complicated legalistic sense made by the Malaysian High Court. Above all, those Malaysian Christians now need to prove compliance with the first two out of the ten commandments: Worship one God only (without partners or associates) and Love thy Muslim neighbors as thou love thyself. Amen.

to me is simple, inside the dictionary clearly stated that God is Allah and Allah is God. So what shall the Christian say for God in Bahasa Malaysia.

Ladies and gentlemen..My brothers and sisters of different religions....Does it really matter's,what name you choose to call "God"? Do you think the god almighty would insist to call him "Allah"? He has several names, all of them, are just a reflection of his essense.Three years the money spend on the lawsuit!...How many fruitfull thing's it could had been used for? There are significant portion of indigenous population in east malaysia of christian faith, who lack's basic essential's of life like a good education, finacial means to eradicate poverty. You can use the resource's to even built a small chaple for them. The same thing can be said for the muslim's,they can built a least small surau (mosque)
for the muslims, maybe provide micro-credit scheme's to help those in poverty...........End of the day,we should not let some indiviual's of both faith, who are keen on spreading hate than to find solution's for the day to day problem's faced by the common man..be it muslims and christians

looks like NAziz and PAS now permits the translation of Faith as "There is no Allah, but Allah". Are they confused with the religion or the party? The ExMufti seems to encouraged this. This make further confusion of the day. When one hears / read the word Allah, does it visualize god with his family?
