KUALA LUMPUR: Former premier Tun Abdullah Badawi today said the “Allah” controversy had now turned into a religious crisis pitting Muslims against non-Muslims and pushed for inter-faith dialogues to be stepped up before turning to the courts to resolve the problem.
“If we act fast, Insya Allah, we can resolve this religious crisis quickly,” Abdullah told reporters after chairing a day-long closed-door expert discussion on organised by the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia, better known by its Malay acronym Ikim.
The discussion, themed “Translating ‘God’ as ‘Allah’: Identifying the Source of the Problem and Resolution”, was atended by some 70 Islamic intellectuals from various fields which cut across the political divide.
Among the notable panellists were PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang; religious adviser to the Prime Minister Datuk Dr Abdullah Md Zain; PKR central leadership member Dr Mohd Nor Manuty; former Perlis mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin; and Dr Kamar Oniah Kamaruzzaman, an associate professor from the International Islamic University’s Usuluddin and Comparative Religion department.
“In our discussion today, we all agreed that we must respect and uphold the Federal Constitution which allows for religious freedom to be continued in peace and harmony,” Abdullah, who is Ikim chairman, stressed.
He noted that the institute was responsible for “managing this religious crisis” and would be holding follow-up discussions, including one with religious leaders from the Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) next Monday.
“The aim is to identify the crisis, ways to resolve it and to find understanding for the harmony of all races in this country,” said Abdullah, who is noted for introducing Islam Hadhari, a middle-of the road concept of the religion, to Malaysia.
“Whatever happens, we must act fast. We must face forward,” he added.
“Before this, there was no crisis,” he replied when asked why dialogues were not held before the issue was taken up before the court.
Ikim director-general, Datuk Nik Mustapha Nik Hassan, cut in and clarified that the institute had held discussions with representatives from other faiths before the crisis arose, but admitted they needed to step up the discussions.
“We don’t want to impose our ideas on others,” Nik Mustapha said, attempting to tone down Ikim’s stand.
“If want to use, must have certain guidelines,” he added.
Earlier however, Abdullah told reporters that the participants of today’s discussion has “unanimously agreed” that the root cause of the crisis was due to the “inaccurate translation of ‘God’ as ‘Allah’“.
“Panellists and participants agreed that the use of the word ‘Allah’ as the translation or replacement for ‘God’ is inaccurate and contrary to the concept of God hosted by the religion of Islam based on the current reality in Malaysia,” he said.

Those who take the Trinity to mean one God for granted are the ones who are actually confused and non-sensical like gibberish for incorrectly calculating 1 (the Father as 1st. divine person or one God) + 1 (the Son Jesus as 2nd. divine person or also one God) + 1 (the Holy Spirit as 3rd. divine person or also one God) = 3 divine persons or 3 Gods (NOT 1 divine person or 1 God). That is, 1x1x1=1 cannot be used in Trinity, because the 3 persons are distinct from one another and NOT similar like 3 identical triplets with similar fingerprints. See the Bible Dictionary or the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the Trinity. On the other hand, if you want to really understand much more easily what one God really means without any confusion, read Suratul Al-Ikhlas (the Integrity) in the Quran.

1 John 5:7 "the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost (Spirit): and these three are one," has been expunged in the RSV of 1952 and 1971 and in many other Bibles as a gloss that had encroached in the Greek text. Check it out!

First and foremost, I do not think you got any brainer to understand anything about the holy Trinity as your heart and mind have been shut! Christians believed and worshipped the Lord God Alminghty as per the First of the Ten Commendments. To worship the Lord God and no other gods. There is only One God, One Lord, One Baptism. The problem weith this Mohammad Saidin is that he cannot comprehend, what more understand or wanting to understand when he do not prosessed the Holy Spirit to enlighten him. The truth will set you free if you permit the Lord into your heart as Saviour. There is no 3 Gods as Muslims wish to claimed Christians beleived in. We only believed in One God, the Creator, the Reedemer and the Scantifier.

Come on The Catholic Observer. Who do you think you are kidding? You the Catholic Observer must admit of seeing pictures and statues of Mary with her baby Jesus in Catholic churches anywhere, even in New York here. The Trinitarians ironically accept the Trinity to represent one God which they explain as if they are confused themselves like gibberish. Even you the Catholic Observer is unable to explain the Trinity without being NOT only confusing but also gibberish. That is, the Trinitarians do NOT correctly understand the qualities and attributes of one God. So, be frank and admit that the Trinity represents 3 Gods as 3 Persons getting together as one group NOT as one God or one Person. See! Honest is the best policy here, especially in stating what Trinity really is like. What is Trinity if you the Catholic Observer are NOT confused to understand it yourself?

It had been long over due! It is aproppriate & recommended that Former Premiers Tun Abdullah & Tun Mahathir & Tun Musa Hitam walk out from their silence & speak out loud & clear immediately to calm down the situation & make an impact of kind & strong advice to the Muslims at large as well as all Malaysians! I am sure it make hell of a difference instead leaving the present immature & inexperience leadership in Umno! There are also many more of experts in Malaysia Muslims who can contribute a thing or two!

It is rather disheartening to note that when MCCBCHST formed in 1981 (if Im not wrong but in the 80s) (Taiosm joined in recent years) Muslim leaders of the Islam religion do not want to be included or join. Otherwise there could be better understanding among all major religions in the country. Alas when Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah) was the PM he prevented the Inter-faith Commission to be formed.Whether it is called inter-religious or inter faith -it was stopped by the then government. If he had allowed such inter religious dialogue to be conducted and held regularly- certainly the questions of distrust, confusion, misunderstanding and hate among religions could be avoided or minimise. Yet now he pushes for inter-faith dialogues as way to solve the Allah issue. Anyhow it is better to be late then never. It is not just the Allah issue but on other issues as well like forced conversion, etc. There must be more dialogues and all Malaysians should learn about the other religions (beside their own)and hear from the respective own religious leaders to speak to them about their own faiths--not some one from their own faith talking about other people faiths as most are known to be biased and not knowing the real or right things. Example like Muslims believed Christians worshipped Mary (Tuhan Ibu). This is not only wrong but a disrespect to Christianity as we worshipped only One God, One Lord.
