KUALA LUMPUR:
A church worker who had lodged a police report against Al Islam magazine (in picture) for desecration slammed the authorities today for their inaction so far.

The magazine’s Muslim reporters allegedly posed as Christians, accepted what Catholic’s consider a holy wafer into their mouths, before spitting it out.

Sudhagaran Stanley, who met reporters outside the Dang Wangi police station today, said he lodged his police report last July but to date has heard nothing about the outcome of police investigations.

“Beside an initial phone call, the police did not even come to take my statement.”

In his report in July, Stanley together with fellow Catholic Joachim Francis Xavier also accused the magazine’s journalists of taking part in Mass to ‘spy’ on the church besides violating the sanctity of the Eucharist which is sacred to Catholics last April.

Their experiences were published by the magazine in their May 2009 addition.

Stanley, from Penang, had come to the police station to get an update on investigations but was disappointed because the officer in charge was not in.

This was his third visit to the police station.

Stanley added that he had recently also written an open letter to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Inspector General of Police but had received no reply.

“Why are they dragging their feet?”

He said that if the authorities had taken firm action in the first place it would have sent a message that the desecration of houses of worship was unacceptable and the recent arson attacks against churches, temple and mosques may not have happened.

Stanley was accompanied by lawyers Annou Xavier and Raymond Mah.

Annou said they would wait for the police or the attorney-general to respond before deciding on their next course of action.
