Telupid Parish Youth Day: Be a Servant of God

The Telupid Parish Youth Day (TPYD) May 10-12 gathered more than 180 youths from St Martin’s parish and beyond.

TELUPID, Sabah: The Telupid Parish Youth Day (TPYD) May 10-12 gathered more than 180 youths from St Martin’s parish and beyond. The Sabah Youth Day-5’s theme Luke 1:38, “I am a servant of God; be with me according to your Word was chosen for the double celebration — TPYD and receiving the Icon of Mother Mary and Youth Cross.

The programme began with the Eucharist celebrated by Fr Jasery G. Emmanuel on May 10. In the evening, Fetwinda spoke on the session What is Sabah Youth Day (SYD)? This was followed by a briefing on the next’s day programme.

The next day continued with sessions while they waited for the arrival of the Youth Cross. About 200 youths and faithful gathered to welcome the arrival of the SYD-5 Youth Cross from Paitan Mission. The group from Paitan arrived at 11.40am, led by Daniel, Youth Ministry Coordinator of Paitan. The arrival of the Cross was welcomed with the beating of the gong and dances. The procession into the church was preceded by the traditional Dusun Labuk dance, the “Magalai Dance” performed by the youth from the parish.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Jasery. After his homily, two youths from Paitan Mission shared their experiences with the Youth Cross.

After Mass, the programme continued at the hall with performances from the youth of St Martin as well as the youths from Paitan Mission. The attendees also witnessed the handing over of the SYD-5’s “Book of Hope” from the Paitan Mission coordinator to the youths of St Martin. The book would be filled with pictures of the youth activities with the youth Cross while at Telupid parish.

After fellowship, several sessions such as Youth issues and challenges and Role of parents were given to foster understanding between parents and youth in their respective ministries. In the evening, the Youth Night showcased their talents with spontaneous performances from youths according to their respective zones. After that, the youths gathered at the church for Adoration with the Youth Cross.

The last day of TPYD, May 12, started with the seven step Bible sharing led by Pranus Laniu, the Parish Pastoral Chairperson. This was followed by the Eucharist celebrated by Fr Stanley Matakim. During his homily, Fr Stan called on the youths to serve and not wait to be served.

After Mass, Fr Jasery and Fr Stan each presented sessions entitled, Community responsibility and A Youth Who is Sent respectively.

The TPYD programme ended at 12.00 noon. Those who attended the TPYD programme and the SYD-5 celebration are looking forward to join youths from all over Sabah for the SYD-5 at Papar and Limbahau Parishes.

The SYD Youth Cross will be in Telupid parish for three weeks. It had been taken to two main zones while the other two zones would be coming as pilgrims to visit the Cross at St Martin Church. --newsdospo
