Dear Editor,
On December 3, the First Sunday of Advent, the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) in Ipoh unveiled a giant Christmas tree which is about 55 feet in height.

The tree was launched by Asst. Parish Priest Fr Simon Anand with a massive crowd of parishioners gathered in anticipation of the launch.

The construction of the tree was the brainchild of a group of youths led by Alex, together with some good volunteers and sponsors of other faiths. Despite their busy schedules, they have prepared to welcome and celebrate Christ’s birth in the Parish and in the lives of the parishioners.

It was a magnificent idea which displays their priceless love for their parish. The tree which they erected is wrapped with love and peace.

But in return, these enthusiastic youths and the parish received massive criticisms on social media. A lot of people commented that the money used to erect the tree could have been channelled to the deprived.

These youths, as well as the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ipoh, have been, and are still, active participants in reaching out to the needy all year round. It is sad that some members of the parish, who were busy taking selfies during the launch, could not refrain from critising! Let’s not be judgmental but, rather, appreciative and proud of these youths. They have been called to be the witnesses of God by the love they extended to their parish.

May this fantabulous Christmas Tree which was launched on the First Sunday of Advent be a time for bringing hope, transformation and fulfilment into the Advent of our lives.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself who loves us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort the hearts of the youths who constructed the tree and strengthen them in every good work and word.

Let the miracle of Christ’s birth and the wonder of His perfect love shine blessings of peace and hope for all of us.

Wishing all a Holy and Spirit filled Christmas.
