Dear Editor,
On Divine Mercy Sunday this year, we were fortunate to commence viewing online The Second Greatest Story Ever Told. This 10 part video series was released by FORMED, on a weekly basis with a limited viewing period. As new episodes were released, earlier episodes were withdrawn.

To benefit fully from this, an informal discussion group was formed at the Church of St Thomas More, Subang Jaya. Members met once a week to view and share which parts touched us most and the impact they had in our lives. Sharings were rich and personal and helped us relate more meaningfully to the events that took place during our life time.

The 30-minute videos were hosted by Fr Michael Gaitley and covered recent events like the Fatima apparitions, the role of Poland’s contribution to world history and key ‘prophets’ of our time like Saints Maximilian Kolbe, Faustina Kowalska and John Paul 2.

These were instrumental in revealing to us that NOW is the time of mercy. There were some key messages we took away from these viewings.

-- We need to absolutely TRUST and OBEY God.
-- The future is not an irrevocably fixed reality. Prayer and conversion can change the course of history.
-- The blood of martyrs contribute to the graces for Mercy. There were more martyrs in the 20th century than all other centuries combined. As such, there is more grace and mercy available to us today than ever before in the history of the Church.
-- Mary is the key to peace and the triumph of her Son over the forces of evil in this spiritual battle we are facing today.
-- We need to consecrate ourselves to Mary as she is the way to bringing the world, especially sinners, to her son.

One wonders why this Second Greatest Story, after the Bible, needs to be told now, during our time and day. Why did Pope Francis declare an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy? Are all these inspirations of the Holy Spirit that NOW is the time of Mercy? If so, how are we responding to this good news? Are we inviting others to join us in living this good news of God’s mercy? “

O blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You.”
