The Church of St Joseph had a triple celebration on Aug 6: the 50th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Fr Robin Andrews, the blessing and opening of St Joseph Centre and the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Among those who witnessed the events were the Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, religious brothers, sisters and the Christian community from other parishes.

Fr Robin Andrews, as the main celebrant, urged the congregation to be prepared and remain faithful to Jesus. He also took the opportunity to thank the parish for organizing his Golden Jubilee celebrations which will always remain in his heart.

He attributed his vocation to daily family prayer and rosary recitation. Recalling his past, he said that it was not easy for him to reveal his decision of joining the seminary to his parents as they had already given two children to the religious life. However, he received blessings and support from his parents for his vocation. In 1955, he joined the Seminary and was later ordained as a priest on April 12, 1964.

As for his long service in Batu Gajah, it was indeed a great joy and pleasure for him to see people’s lives change and transform. He said that if he had been a dentist, he would have just been looking into people’s mouths but today, he is joyful being a priest who can make a difference in people’s lives. He ended with a poem about all the blessings received throughout his journey in his vocation. Bishop Francis Sebastian thanked and praised the parish of Batu Gajah, especially its Parish Priest Fr Andrew Stephen, for his dedication and contribution to the celebration. He also took the opportunity to thank Fr Robin Andrews for his service with special charisms.

He also told the congregation that Fr Robin used to write down all the blessings that he received and that was indeed a great testimony in his life and should be an example to all.

His Lordship also thanked Emeritus Murphy Pakiam for his dedication as the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur and assured of his prayers for the newly elected Archbishop, Julian Leow.

On behalf of the Diocese, he also extended his gratitude to the St Joseph Building Committee, Dr Joseph Lim and his team, and the event Organizing Chairman, Augustine Yagulasamy for making a dream come true for the parishioners of St Joseph’s, Batu Gajah.

After the Eucharistic Celebration, the congregation made their way to the St Joseph Centre for the opening ceremony. Bishop Francis Sebastian blessed and unveiled the curtains of the newly built centre and hall. The hall was named Narbaiz Hall. A short prayer was conducted before His Lordship blessed the hall.

Later on, the ceremony continued with a cake cutting by Fr Robin Andrews who expressed his gratitude to his parishioners for such a joyful and wonderful event. There was also a slide show about Fr Robin Andrew’s history from childhood up to the present. The attendees then enjoyed a delicious dinner with music from a live band.

Souvenir plaques were also presented to the Building Committee members for their dedication. It was indeed a memorable event.
