RAUB: The Church of the Annunciation celebrated its feastday with a triduum March 21-23, 2019. The preacher was Fr Simon Lau from Kuala Lumpur.

The pinnacle of the celebration was the candlelight procession in parts of Raub town on March 23. Two beautifully decorated floats, one carrying the Blessed Sacrament and the other a statue of Our Lady led the procession, with Fr Lau and Fr Augustine Lee, the Parish Administrator of the Church. The Rosary was recited along the 2KM route.

In his homily, Fr Lau said that as we celebrate the parish feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, we remember Mary who said, “Let it be done unto me, as You will.” How would we respond when God asks us? We should do just like Mary did, with her fiat ‘Yes’, let not my will be done but God’s will be done unto me”.

Fr Lau spoke about Hell on Day 1. Making reference to the Gospel story about Lazarus and the rich man he said, if we follow our own desire, we will fall into the devil’s trap and end up in hell.

On Day 2, Fr Lau spoke about the world. Mary opened her door to God. To open our heart, we open our door for Jesus to enter.

On Day 3 of the triduum, Fr Lau spoke on Heaven. Before sin entered the world, both heaven and earth were united. But due to the sin of Adam and Eve, heaven and earth were separated. Heaven is God’s Kingdom. On earth, humans do not allow God to take control, unfortunately these allow Satan to influence them. God gave us the freedom to choose. When Mary said ‘Yes’ to God at the annunciation, Fr Lau said, heaven and earth were reunited. He quoted Luke 17:20-21 (The coming of the Kingdom of God).

“When we surrender ourselves completely to God, we are in His Kingdom. When we reject God, we are separated from Him.”

Fr Lau mentioned that Mary continues to intercede for us. Like Mary, we too must carry on the faith and be true disciples of Jesus Christ, not merely as devotees who only seek miracles and not Jesus, who performs the miracles. Be disciples of Christ, who are interested in His teaching of God’s Kingdom. As disciples of Christ, we allow Jesus into our hearts and allow God to live in us.

Benediction was held in church after the procession.

Lastly, dinner were served to all present.
