JOHOR BAHRU: What is spirituality? Are there different types of spiritualities? How can I deepen my own spirituality? What about  Carmelite Spirituality? Does it somehow involve popcorn? Well, buckle up because Malacca Johore Diocese Young People Network (MJDYPN) will be delving into these very topics this coming February! We are pleased to welcome Fr Philip Tay, OCD to facilitate these sessions which will be held over Zoom throughout the second month of the year.

Fr. Philip Tay, OCD hails from Malacca and attended St Francis Institution for both his primary and secondary education. After his SPM he furthered his studies in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Kuala Lumpur. During his campus life, he was actively involved in the Catholic Students Society as well as the youth movement in his parish. He joined the Carmelite Order in 2013  and had his formation in Singapore, Taiwan and Australia. He was ordained a Deacon in Australia in 2019 and was ordained a priest on Aug 6, 2020 at the Church of St Francis Xavier, PJ. He is currently based in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

The sessions that Fr Tay will be conducting will start with an introduction to spirituality and also Carmelite spirituality. Next he will delve into the Practice of the Presence of God by Lawrence of the Resurrection and also focus on a particular Saint, Therese of Lisieux, on her spirituality and writings. This will help participants with their own practice of being in the presence of God and the practice of St Therese’s ‘Little Way,’ in daily living.

A total of eight sessions will be given, four in English and four in Bahasa Malaysia, and they will be conducted over Zoom beginning at 8.30pm on the dates stated on the poster. This programme is opened to young people aged 18 and above and the link and Zoom ID for the meeting will be given after a successful registration has taken place.
