The WHEELS ministry of Assumption Church recently went on a pilgrimage to the Church of St Theresa of Liseux.

Comprising the differently abled, the pilgrimage was part of the Extraordinary Missionary Year 2019 activity.

Everyone gathered at Assumption Church to board a specially chartered bus which catered to the wheel chair bound. On their arrival, they were greeted warmly by the parish Priest Fr Eugene Benedict and served breakfast.

Fr Eugene then proceeded with the tour of the church by gathering the faithful at the 1st Station in front of the Statue of St Theresa of Liseux and the crucifix of our Lord. A sharing on the meaning of the Missionary Year and a brief history of St Theresa was given.

The “Pilgrimage Walk – Walking In The Light Of St Theresa’s Life Journey” continued with the pilgrims moving on to the other stations. The stations comprise St  Theresa and her family, Our Lady of Fatima’s grotto, a small flower garden and also a mock setup of the home of St Theresa. The walk ended at the old Church building which had been burnt down in a fire some years ago. Fr Eugene also shared the history of the church.

Mass was then celebrated.

Members of WHEELS and the BECs enjoyed the pilgrimage and the great fellowship. The pilgrims also contributed some provisions for the Orang Asli such as Milo, milk powder, Nescafe, rice, biscuits etc.

The event concluded with a thank you speech and special blessings given by Fr Eugene. The WHEELS ministry and BECs were grateful for this opportunity to visit St Theresa of Liseux Church. The saint is known as the “Little Flower with a will of steel”.

The ministry also thanked Fr Eugene for his wonderful hospitality during the visit.
