Why so much focus on Martin Luther?

In Christian charity, please forgive me for asking such, but I cannot let my conscience be still, knowing that Catholics are becoming more indifferent towards Protestants thinking that Catholics and they are the same.

Dear Editor,
I am sending this email, not because I am against the HERALD, but because of what it has, and keeps, publishing.

I humbly inquire as to why Martin Luther is being published more than good Catholic news in the HERALD. I know it is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, but so many times we ask ourselves why youths and other people are attracted to Protestantism and yet, here we are, publishing their goodness.

I humbly plead to, please, not publish or share articles that our forefathers have deemed as heretic. I don’t understand why the HERALD, in all that it is good for, is supporting a person who denied the papacy, spoke against the hierarchy and, worst of all, against our Blessed Mother.

I am not well versed in the teaching of Luther nor the Catholic Church, but my Christian conscience is deeply hurt and confused, knowing that the Malaysian Church newspaper, the mainstream if not the only source for the majority of Catholics, is sympathetic towards Protestantism. I don’t disagree that we should work for the common good; that is good but shouldn’t we lead them back to the one Church established by our Lord himself.

Thank you for taking your time to read my letter. Please do not get angry or assume that I am against the Church. I am just wondering why we are promoting someone who, if alive now, would be happy to work with Catholics just because we are conforming to his ideals and ideas and not because we uphold what is true and right.

The Catholic Church, as you should know, is far more rich with history, doctrine and social works and tradition. The Council Fathers who rejected and condemned Luther, and all the others, were probably not wrong at all. Because, as a youth and also as someone who wants to know more about our Faith, reading the reasons as to why Luther and the rest were wrong is awe-inspiring, perhaps if the kind editor were to also read them in light of Catholic teaching, perhaps the kind editor would also understand.

In Christian charity, please forgive me for asking such, but I cannot let my conscience be still, knowing that Catholics are becoming more indifferent towards Protestants thinking that Catholics and they are the same.

A concerned Catholic.
