SANDAKAN: The Diocesan Youth Commission had a dialogue session at the parish of St Mary on November 8, 2016 with the youth from the other parishes. The session was attended by a team from the Parish Youth Apostolate, including several youth who have the potential to become members of the apostolate in the future. Also present were Sr Lilian Unsoh fsic, Vice Spiritual Advisor for the Parish Youth Apostolate Sandakan.

The meeting began at 8.00pm with an opening prayer by Sr Lilian. The main purpose of the meeting was for the Commission to see, hear and learn from the Parish Youth about their experiences, especially as parish youth leaders. Despite their various experiences, the one thing that they had in common was the friendship they made as they worked together among the different races. From these experiences, some had the opportunity to become advocates, for the first time, in supporting youth programmes by being more open-minded, loved and accepted in the team. “Feel the love of God through the others. That is a blessing,” said one of them.

There was also the challenge in finding the time to serve because of family and work commitments. Some of the youth also lack confidence in themselves, thus requiring more attention. There was also the difficulty of attending meetings and courses because of the lack of transportation. Sometimes, the joy of serving is no longer there and it becomes a job that has to be done. There is also the challenge of being misunderstood, especially in communication and this is often faced by the leaders, no matter in which part of the church they serve in. Therefore it is important for these dialogue sessions to continue so that challenges or problems can be heard in a non-judgmental manner and solved in a proper manner. -- newsupdatedospo.blogspot
