Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice! This uplifting verse from Philippians 4:4 was the theme for the youth of Good Shepherd Church (GSC) at an Easter-themed night of dinner, dance and fellowship for youth aged 18 to 39 years of age.

The preparation for this ball was not an easy feat. The youth committee and organising team from GSC put in tremendous effort to promote the ball. Needless to say, it definitely paid off, as the event was indeed a night to remember.

There was a need to bring the youth together, as the demands of everyday life seemed to take a toll in the building of relationships among the young. With that in mind, this ball took flight, with the intention of bringing the joy of Christ to young hearts and to share that joy with each other. The Easter-ball took place on May 27, with a total of 120 tickets all sold out.

Guests were greeted by the ushering team and led towards a magical arch, up star-studded steps that led to the ballroom. A photo-booth was set up for the guests to capture the moment by an ever ready photographer.

Walking into the hall, one couldn’t help but feel taken aback by the lightings and decorations that created an enchanting atmosphere. Parish priest Fr Christopher was also present as a source of motivation, encouragement and a pillar of support for the youth.

A supportive crowd from all over the archdiocese came dressed in the dress code, a black-tie event. Young lads were smartly dressed in their shirts and suits, and the ladies were elegant in their evening gowns. A ninecourse Chinese dinner was the highlight of the evening.

Throughout the evening, there was a range of performances, relating to Christ and the joy of his resurrection. There was an array of gifts that got the crowd crossing their fingers for the lucky draw. The grand prize was a HuaWei smartphone that was definitely on everyone’s list. A few interesting games got the crowd warmed up. The effort to dress up did not go to waste as there was a bestdressed competition, with the winners being crowned best-dressed male and female for the night.

A local band, ‘TwentyFourSeven,’ featuring local talents from the parish of GSC, along with their friends, entertained the crowd with popular hits, amazing music and outstanding vocals. The highlight towards the end was a short-musical, performed by the organising team.

Having had a successful and joyous celebration to commemorate the joy of Easter, the organising committee of the GSC Youth Easter Ball 2017 extended their heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, BECs, TwentyFourSeven, to Adrian Yong, the photographer of the night, and to all the guests for attending and making it an amazing night.

As Psalm 118:24 echoes, “The Lord has done it this very day, let us rejoice and be glad.” Indeed the joy of Easter brought unity and fellowship, with Christ as the centre of it all!
