SELANGOR: Seven multi-lingual churches in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, celebrated Christmas together with a service, sports, cultural performances and a festive lunch hosted by Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh and Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming were among those who attended the early morning service conducted in English, Mandarin, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia.
Performances by the members of the churches were next held in the Serdang 3K hall for the congregation and guests. These include a folk dance and carols sung by a choir.
Pastor Daniel Dharminder Singh, who is on the organising committee, said the event was a good sign that churches, regardless of their differences, were able to work together.
“Today’s event is very special because we are able to work together as a team and give churchgoers in the area a chance to get to know one another.
“The Christian community in Selangor is very big. There are about 30 churches in the state and seven in this area alone.
“We get asked a lot why we are celebrating Christmas so early instead of after the day itself like others, but it is easier to get people together before Christmas because the churches are busy with their own programme after that,” he said. --The Malaysian Insider
