Some of the confirmation students from the Church of St Francis of Assisi (SFA) organised an outreach programme to Rumah Keluarga Kami (RKK), a residential home for underprivileged, abused and abandoned children on May 24.
The outreach was held with the purpose of providing experience to the confirmands in their journey to Confirmation. The participants among themselves planned and organised the outing.
Many of their parents also helped in providing transport as well as sponsoring the items for lunch.
Upon arrival, they were all warmly welcomed by all the children, all of whom were eager to meet and greet the visitors. The friendly and cheerful nature of the children came as a pleasant surprise to the participants, who communicated easily with them.
Several activities conducted were led by the confirmands, such as action songs, short plays and even dance performances during the duration of the children's breaktime. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely during the activities, their laughter and bright smiles resonating throughout the place. The children were also given the chance to debut their skills and talents, earning plenty of applause and encouragement from all those present.
Praise of the Lord also wasn't neglected during the visit, as everyone danced and sang praise and worship songs as part of the activities.
During the lunch break, everyone mingled freely as they chatted over their meals. Everyone was given the chance to simply chat about their interests and the like, and the participants were easily accepted by the children who addressed them as ‘brother’ and ‘sister’ as if they were acquainted for years before this. One confirmand even commented how easy it was to connect with the children on a social level despite the short span of time they spent in the others’ company, and the confirmands readily expressed their wishes to return to the place yet again.
Rumah Keluarga Kami (RKK) was established on 1st June 1990 and is a project by the society of St Vincent de Paul, Conference of the Holy Family, Kajang.
