ASAYO recently took on a never before organised mission to put together an all-girls’ beach getaway called Straight Talk with Girls. The three day, two night getaway saw various activities unfold before the unsuspecting participants and left them with impactful insights into the brokenness of their soul, the beauty of sisterhood and, ultimately, hope for the journey ahead.
Keeping it real throughout, girls from various walks of life shared their VERY personal testimonies in relation to their self-esteem, sexual brokenness (in relationships, rape, abuse, abortion, same sex attractions) family struggles and their overall identity in Christ.
Post retreat, an online survey was conducted to collate feedback and testimonies from the girls. The polls showed that 42% of participants selected YES for whether or not it met their expectations and another 57% stated that it exceeded their expectations. 89% selected The Talks as the item they most enjoyed, followed by the activities.
A good number of them shared that this camp helped them come to terms with their sinfulness, and that they discovered the fatherly heart of God which allowed them to make a good confession. This was held on Saturday night. Some shared that these were sins that they could never previously confess and had harboured in secrecy and pain for many years.
The message of hope rang loud as a panel of nine men made time to travel to Port Dickson to share their faith life, love life and the struggles they have faced in these areas. Again, they were very real and honest in their sharing which gave the girls clarity on what a woman of God is called to be and the essence of what it means to have a God centred relationship.
Due to the overwhelming feedback, ASAYO is planning a follow-up to this retreat for the inaugural group. They are also going to repeat the programme in the 3rd quarter as it is seen to be necessary to promote and cultivate the message of peace, hope, love and joy amongst girls in today’s world.
The follow-up has been tentatively scheduled for May and the repeat of this programme may happen in August 2015. It is open to single women between 17 and 40 years of age.
