JEJU, South Korea: The Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific held its biannual meeting of major superiors on the Korean island province of Jeju and pledged to help preserve the earth and its ecology.
At the July 18–22 meeting, attendees discussed the pastoral activities of Jesuits in the region. The Jesuit superiors said reconciliation with the environment was a matter of urgency.
They prioritized raising awareness about ecology and the environment, praising God’s creation and educating children about the issue.
They also shared their activities that sought to cope with migration problems and on ways to empower youth ministry.
The 21 participants listened to a lecture by Peter Kang U-il of Cheju about a protest against a naval base on Jeju Island. The following day, participants visited the village of Gangjeong, which is near the controversial naval facility. -- ucanews.com
