On the 6th March 2015, the youth from the Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Kapit organized the first Youth Camp 2015 in collaboration with the Carmelite Sisters and Carmelitae Sancti Eliae (CSE) Sabah. 142 participants participated in this programme with 119 participants from four secondary schools in Kapit and 23 members from the Youth Camp Committee. The theme taken from the Gospel of St John 16:24 Ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be full was aimed at helping the youth shape the direction in how they live their lives that has been planned by God. Whatever you ask for will be given to you, not necessary now, but at a more appropriate time. Through this camp, the youth were able to enhance their love for Jesus, understand and experience the true joy in God. The activities that were carried out during this camp took place between Praise and Worship led by Bro Andreas and Sr Roswita with talks conducted by Sr Dominica, Sr Afra and Sr Tracy.

Geoffrey Lim had been entrusted to conduct this youth camp. He formed a small committee with assistance from the Carmelite monastery and CSE Sabah to ensure the success of the camp. He shared his thoughts and feelings while participating in this camp, where, he said, he felt far away from God and became less active in Church ministry. Now he would like to return and be more participative in the Church, for example, to be in the choir or be areader.

Valarian Linus, during the sharings said that his heart was touched during the session Moment of Love when the participants spoke of the peace and redemption they found towards one another and with Jesus Christ. They spoke of the resentment that had built up in them towards their parents, relatives and even friends which led them into the tendency to sin. “If you forgive men’s sins, they are forgiven them; if you hold them bound, they shall be held bound.” (John 20:23). The youth were able to go to confession and ask for forgiveness for their sins. Clara Moses, one of the participants called to religious life, said that she felt the Holy Spirit who moved her to get up and go forward to seek His blessings. Clara also said that she was afraid to face the trials that lie ahead of her and she went to see Fr David, the Sisters and the participants to ask for their prayers so that her intention to become a nun will be achieved.

Timothy Manja, an altar server, told the youth camp that this was one of the best camps with the motto Awesome, Miraculous, Extraordinary. He said he was more confident and understands his role as an Altar server as well as being more actively involved in the church ministry. With the implementation of this programme, the youth will take more care about the interests and needs of those around them, especially the spiritual needs. They will be more confident, enthusiastic and courageous in exploring the richness of “our spiritual treasure of the Church” and to have a more meaningful daily life because the love of Jesus Christ is truly Awesome, Miraculous, Extraordinary.
