BK quiz inspires students to know God better

KUALA LUMPUR (Herald Malaysia): On August 6, seven students from Sacred Heart Church (SHC), Sharon, Kimberly, Gwendolene, Valerie, Murphy, Aron and Isabel participated in a Bible Knowledge quiz called BK16. This quiz was organised by Malayan Christian Schools’ Council (MCSC). This year, it was held at SMK Assunta, Petaling Jaya.

They were quizzed on 50 challenging objective questions from the Gospel of St Luke Chapter 18 to Chapter 24 and the Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 1 to Chapter 5. Trophies were given away to the top 10 winners of each form.

All participants were given an attendance certificate endorsed by the Education Ministry, which has also sanctioned this as a co-curricular activity. As such, students will be able to earn co-curriculum marks just by participating.

Everyone had a fun learning experience. Participating in this quiz has also given them a head start in sitting for the Bible Knowledge in SPM next year.

The students from SHC felt very proud when the chairman of MCSC, in her opening speech, mentioned that Archbishop Julian Leow was the first to give financial support for the success of this event. She further added that sadly, the number of SPM candidates sitting for the Bible Knowledge paper has dwindled from 1100 in 2009 to a mere 200+ in 2015.

“My friends and I have made a pact to participate again next year. The scheduled date for the quiz next year is August 5, 2017, shared Isabel.

“We thank our parish priest, Fr Edwin Peter for his encouragement, our BK teachers for guiding us and our parents for their continuous support.

“I hope this article will inspire more Catholic students to participate and sit for Bible Knowledge at SPM level. Personally, for me, the Bible is my google that helps me to know God better,” she added.
